Getting there

The Cowell Lime Works Historic District is located on the UC Santa Cruz campus, just inside the main entrance at Bay St. and High St. in Santa Cruz.

  • By bus: SCMTD buses provide frequent service between downtown Santa Cruz and the campus. There are stops in the historic district at High St./Bay St., and on Coolidge Dr.
  • By bike: Bike lanes on High St. and Bay St. provide access to the campus. A bike trailer provides a lift from Mission St. during morning commute hours.
  • By car: From Hwy 17, take Hwy 1 north (toward Half Moon Bay). Travel north on Hwy 1 (Mission St.) about 1 mile to Bay St. Turn right and proceed uphill to the campus main entrance.

Parking

Obtain a daily parking permit ($5.50) and campus map at the Main Entry kiosk on Coolidge Dr. Park in the lots on the west side of Coolidge, adjacent to the Barn Theater, Admissions Office and kilns, or near the Granary Childcare Center at High and Coolidge.

Accessibility

All SCMTD buses are wheelchair accessible, and there are accessible spots in each parking lot. Good views of historic structures in the district, and/or access close to the buildings via sidewalk or roadway, are available for all numbered map points. The Blacksmith Shop and Hay Barn (Points 12 and 13) are presently inaccessible due to construction.
