Lime Works board members pose for a groundbreaking photo this past spring at the site of the Cardiff Shed renovation project.

The Friends of the Cowell Lime Works has announced that the historic Cardiff Shed, dismantled a few years ago, will soon be reconstructed. The building was located near the Cardiff House and used in later years as a small storage shed. Built in the late 1800s, it was at a point of near collapse when it was rescued by the Friends, former staff liaison Sally Morgan, and several student volunteers.

Students later conducted an archaeological dig at the site and helped repair the redwood siding. Unfortunately, the roof and floor were beyond salvage.

Over the past year, architect and Friends board member Dennis Diego generously volunteered to draw up plans for reconstruction and shepherded the project through the UCSC planning process. Redtree Partners LP generously donated funding for the project, which was matched by the Friends.

The Friends board members are thankful for the memberships that have supported this project.
